Life: Before and After University

University is an entirely new phase of a person's life, and we're finally expected to act and manage our lives properly and by ourselves. But to begin with, things aren't as easy as they seem to be. Here are all of the unexpected things which change as you manage get on with your university life:

1. Vocabulary

Before:

You had no idea what “working on someone” meant. And what in the world is a proxy?

Now:

You know that anyone who wants to stand in the elections has to “work” on everyone they know in order to get some potential voters. Oh and if it wasn’t for proxies, you’d be drowning in absences.

2. Sleep

Before:

You had a steady relationship with sleep. Summer vacation calls for 10+ hours of sweet slumber- and you made sure you got that beauty sleep.

Now:

You have so much work to do, that the only shut-eye you get, is when you blink.

3. Social life

Before:

Every weekend was a trip to a new restaurant or to go see the latest movie with your closest friends or family.

Now:

Weekend? All you can think of is sleeping- being friends with 20 different types of people (politics and all) can really mess with your head.

4. Home

Before:

You went to school/college to study and meet friends, and then you went home.

Now:

University is your home.

5. Health

Before:

You had finally gone on that diet you had planned for ages. You were almost starting to look healthier!

Now:

Thanks to all those oily rolls and biryani, not to mention the muftas, you have gone back to looking like a fat, tired, sloth with huge eye bags.

6. Priorities

Before:

Your priorities at school were to get good grades by studying hard and being a good student. If you flunked a test, don’t worry, only the finals count anyway.

Now:

Your priorities focus around meeting the attendance requirements and passing a course with a decent GPA, mainly by having good class participation. Being nice to the TA is essential, because even a difference of 0.5 marks can change your entire grade.

7. Money

Before:

You thought you had a lot of money. Working as a freelance writer or a photographer for a few months had gotten you a bit of cash and you were ready to party!

Now:

No matter what you do, you are perpetually broke. Now where does all that money go?
